Enquire about language support
Name your preferred language clearly

Clarify the support available
Ask whether the proposed clinician speaks your language or whether interpretation can be arranged. Confirm any booking requirements, costs and availability before attending. Interpretation for a consultation, consent discussion and written medical records may involve different arrangements, so explain the help you expect to need.
Prepare records for an accurate discussion
Keep original medical records and identify the language in which they were written. Ask whether a translation is required before review and what format is accepted. A short list of questions in your preferred language can help you cover the issues most important to you.
