Confirm who is involved in your care, how to request assistance and when you can discuss questions with the clinical team. Tell staff about allergies, current medicines and access or language needs. Ask about meal arrangements, personal belongings and the ward’s guidance for visitors.

Ask the team to explain planned investigations and treatment, including what each step is intended to achieve. Keep a note of questions and any changes you notice. Before taking medicines brought from home or making changes to activity, food or drink, check the instructions for your care.
Preparing to leave
Begin discussing discharge needs early, especially if you may need help at home, equipment or follow-up appointments. Ask which documents, medicines and instructions will be provided. If you live abroad, discuss travel timing and how your ongoing care will be coordinated after you return.
