A proposed treatment plan and cost estimate should explain the next clinical steps and the services included. Ask the team to distinguish confirmed arrangements from items that depend on further assessment.
Request planning information
Understand the proposed plan
Ask what clinical information the recommendation is based on and whether an in-person consultation or further investigations are needed. Discuss the purpose of each proposed stage, alternatives and the expected review points. A preliminary plan may change when the treating clinician has more information.
Review the estimate
Request an itemised estimate where available and ask what is included or charged separately. Clarify consultation, investigation, procedure, hospital stay and follow-up costs relevant to the proposal. Ask about the currency, validity period and circumstances that could change the total before agreeing to proceed.
Confirm before committing
Check deposit requirements, payment timing and any applicable cancellation or refund terms in writing. If insurance is involved, obtain confirmation directly from the insurer about authorisation and coverage. Keep a copy of the agreed plan and estimate, and ask how changes will be discussed with you.
