Enquire about an imaging test
Match imaging to the clinical question
Different imaging methods provide different information. A referral or clinical assessment may be needed to choose a suitable test and determine the area to examine. Share previous reports and images, and ask whether they already answer the question before repeating an examination.
Explain relevant safety information
Tell the team about possible pregnancy, implanted devices, previous contrast reactions and relevant kidney problems. Some scans require fasting, specific clothing or other preparation; others do not. Follow the instructions for your booked examination and ask about any uncertainty before attending.
Confirm reporting and next steps
Ask how to obtain the written report and image files, when they are expected, and which clinician will explain the findings. A scan result needs clinical context. The coordinator can confirm whether the requested modality is available and what documentation is needed for booking.
