Keep an accurate list of medicines, doses, allergies, previous reactions and implanted devices. Tell the team about changes in your health and make sure your name and date of birth are checked before tests, medicines or procedures.
Understand each step
Before a procedure, confirm what is planned, why it is recommended and who will perform it. Ask about preparation, anaesthesia, possible complications and recovery. If an instruction is unclear, request an explanation before proceeding.
Know how to get help
During your stay, ask how to contact your nurse or treating team and how concerns are escalated. Before discharge, obtain clear follow-up instructions, including which symptoms require urgent local assessment and whom to contact for routine questions.
