Share the name of the test, the requesting clinician and the purpose stated on the referral or request. Tell the team if several investigations need coordinating. Confirm whether the request must be reviewed before an appointment can be offered and how to submit it appropriately.
Follow individual instructions
Preparation depends on the investigation and your circumstances. Ask for written instructions about eating, drinking, medicines, clothing or arrival time where relevant. Tell the clinical team about allergies, pregnancy possibilities, implanted devices or other information they request; do not stop prescribed medicines without specific clinical advice.
Plan the result review
Ask when and how results are expected to be available and who will explain them to you. Collecting a report and receiving a clinical interpretation may be separate steps. Before leaving, clarify whether you need a follow-up appointment or should contact the clinician who requested the test.
