Accreditations
Understand the documentation behind a hospital accreditation or certification and request the current evidence relevant to your care.
Request accreditation information
What to check
Ask for the name of the accrediting or certifying body, the hospital’s registered name and the exact campus or service covered. A certificate may apply to a particular activity rather than every department or treatment offered by an organisation.
Scope and validity
Check the certificate number, issue date, expiry date and any limitations. Where an issuing body maintains a public register, use it to verify the document independently. The hospital can supply the current documentation requested for an individual enquiry.
Questions beyond a certificate
Accreditation is one part of understanding a service. You can also ask about the team’s relevant experience, treatment-specific consent, complication management and continuity of care. These questions should relate to the actual procedure and clinical team being considered.
