ICU Visiting Information
Intensive care visits need to fit around treatment, rest and infection-prevention requirements. Contact the unit directly through the hospital team for the current arrangements before planning a visit.

Check access in advance
Ask about permitted visiting times, visitor numbers and any identification or check-in requirements. The unit may adapt visiting arrangements to a patient’s clinical needs. Confirm whether children can visit and whether any health-related restrictions apply to visitors on the day.
During the visit
Follow staff instructions for hand hygiene, protective equipment and where to stand or sit. Avoid touching monitoring equipment or adjusting anything around the patient without guidance. Visits may need to pause for procedures or care, and the team can explain when it is appropriate to return.
Communicating with the team
Ask how updates are shared with the patient’s authorised contact and when questions can be discussed with a clinician. A nominated family contact can help keep communication clear where the patient agrees or appropriate arrangements apply. Respect the patient’s preferences and the privacy of others in the unit.
