Confirm the ward arrangements
Ask the relevant ward about visiting times, the number of visitors permitted and any requirements for children. Provide only the information needed to identify the visit. Arrangements may change because of a patient’s condition, rest needs, clinical procedures or current infection-prevention measures.
Coordinate with the patient
Check that the patient would like a visit and whether the proposed time suits their care and rest. Keep visits manageable and consider coordinating with other relatives. If the patient cannot discuss arrangements directly, ask the ward how visits and family communication are organised.
Check before travelling
Confirm the entrance and check-in process, especially if you will arrive outside a routine outpatient appointment period. Ask the ward about any changes on the day of your visit. For intensive care or other specialist areas, obtain the specific visiting instructions rather than assuming general arrangements apply.
