Mental Health Support
A considered starting point for questions about emotional wellbeing, changes in mood or behaviour, and how to seek an appropriate mental health assessment.
Enquire about mental health support
Describe what has been changing
Explain the main concern, how long it has been present and its effect on sleep, relationships, work or daily activities. Previous diagnoses, treatment and current medicines can help a clinician understand your situation. You can also describe the kind of support you hope to find.
Discuss the kind of support needed
Assessment, psychological support and medication management address different needs and may involve different professionals. Ask which service is appropriate and available, the language of consultation and how confidentiality is handled. If someone is supporting you, clarify how they can be involved with your consent.
Choose timely help when needed
A routine enquiry is not monitored as a crisis service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, at risk of self-harm or unable to stay safe, contact local emergency services or go to the nearest emergency department for urgent support.
