Visitor Guidelines
Visitors can support a patient’s comfort and recovery by following the ward’s guidance. Confirm the arrangements before arrival and respect the patient’s preferences, privacy and need for rest.
Ask about visitor guidance
Before your visit
Contact the ward to check visiting times, permitted visitor numbers and any requirements for accompanying children. If you feel unwell or have a recent infectious illness, ask the team whether you should postpone. Check before bringing food, flowers or personal items, as restrictions may apply.
During the visit
Follow hand-hygiene instructions and any protective measures requested by staff. Keep noise low and allow time and space for clinical care. Ask before taking photographs or making recordings, and respect the privacy of other patients and staff throughout the hospital.
Supporting the patient
Let the patient decide how much company they want and keep visits appropriate to their energy level. Speak with staff before assisting with food, drinks, movement or medicines. If a relative will help with discharge or care at home, ask when practical guidance can be discussed.
